The Princess Bride was written by William Goldman, (S.Morgenstern is his pen name) in 1973.
The main characters are Buttercup the beautiful princess, Westley the farm boy, Vizzini the criminal philosopher, Inigo whose steel thirst for revenge, Fezzik the gentle giant, Count Rugen the evil master mind and Prince Humperdinck the prince of Florin.
As Florin and Guilder teeter on the verge of war, the reluctant Princess Buttercup is devastated by the loss of her true love, kidnapped by a mercenary and his henchman, rescued by a pirate, forced to marry prince Humperdinck, and rescued by the very crew who absconded her in the first place. (This is part of the insert on the back of the abridged version of the story by W. Goldman)
Some of the parts that I like best- The climb and sword fight on the Cliffs of Insanity, The parts when Vizzini always says Inconceivable! And the end were Fezzik acualy does something right and brings the horses!
This is a very interesting tale of true love and high adventure! This is not your ordinary fairytale it is jam packed with comedy! I highly recommend it and the movie with Cary Elwes, (Westley) and Robin Write (Buttercup).
Though unfortunately there are some instances where objectionable language was used in the book and movie.
Ciao!
